Organic radish is around since the 3rd B.C where written records by the ancient Romans and Greeks have mentions about it. Radish is derived from a Latin word 'radix' which means root. The scientific name of radish, Raphanus is Greek for 'quickly appearing'. The strong and peculiarly pungent smells of white radish is caused by a compound which is found in mustard and wasabi as well. Radishes were paid as compensation to labourers who lived in ancient Egypt and who built pyramids for a living. It was  which the ancient Egyptians used in their cooking and diet. Organic radish also finds its use in Ayurveda, where radish is believed to have a cooling effect on the blood.
